On August 10, the Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities held a virtual ceremony to say goodbye to their 2023 summer interns. Undergraduate and graduate students served internships with federal agencies through the HACU National Internship Program. The students participated for 10 weeks and heard from other interns about their experiences.
The start of the new semester at the University of New Mexico is being celebrated through a series of events called Welcome Back Days. All students, whether new or returning, have been invited to discover what the campus has in store for them.
The events include Friday Night Fun, which offers karaoke, a DJ, Henna tattoos, a laser tag arena, photo booths, student organization tables, and UNM sports teams.
Another event is the Class Crawl, where new students can print a copy of their class schedule and get a personalized campus tour to find their classes.
Students can also enjoy a Movie on the Field, where they can watch the summer hit Jurassic World Dominion outside on Johnson Field, or a free showing of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.
On President’s Ice Cream Social & Departmental Information Day, students can get valuable information from UNM Schools & Departments about campus programs, services, and resources, and enjoy free ice cream served by UNM President Stokes and University Administrators.
There will be live music from a local musician. Safety, Health, Wellness, and Recreation Day offers safety demos, recreational activities, and healthy living alternatives at information booths from the Safety, Health, Wellness & Recreation departments.
UNM Communities Day is an opportunity for students to explore and get valuable information from UNM’s Ethnic, Women’s, Veteran, and LGTBQ Centers, as well as other culturally-based programs, departments, and student organizations.
On North Campus Welcome Back Day, information booths will run from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Additionally, Student Organization Day offers students a chance to meet and speak with ASUNM Student Government leaders and learn how to get involved with the over 400 student organizations on campus (200 student organizations will have info tables).
The events end with Campus Employment and Community Service Day, when university departments will hire students on-site for work-study and student employment positions. Community organizations will be recruiting volunteers for their worthwhile events & causes.
