The Office of Indian Affairs also emphasized the importance of Red Shawl Day in remembering, honoring, and bringing attention to the violence committed against Indigenous people, particularly women and children.

Meanwhile, Grand Canyon National Park, the Bering Land Bridge National Preserve in Alaska and the Mesa Verde National Park in Colorado took to social media to commemorate the day.

Red Shawl Day is an annual national effort to draw attention to acts of violence committed against Indigenous people.

Throughout the week surrounding November 19, people are encouraged to join in using Red Shawl Day as a platform to highlight the issue facing many Indigenous communities that surround America’s national parks.
