Beyond smartphones, Snapdragon Satellite can expand to laptops, tablets, vehicles, and the Internet of Things (IoT). Snapdragon Satellite is planned to support 5G Non-Terrestrial Networks, as NTN satellite infrastructure and constellations become available.

“Garmin welcomes the opportunity to expand our proven satellite emergency response services to millions of new smartphone users globally,” said Brad Trenkle, vice president of Garmin’s outdoor segment. “Garmin Response supports thousands of SOS incidents each year and has likely saved many lives in the process, and we are looking forward to collaborating with Qualcomm Technologies and Iridium to help people connect to emergency services no matter where life takes them.”

Vehicle surroundings sensors such as cameras, radar, and lidar, help ensure maximum safety and comfort. They support drivers in everyday situations such as parking or driving in moving traffic. In the future, different levels of automation will relieve driving stress to an ever greater degree.

According to Qualcomm Technologies, advanced driver assistance systems will make traffic safer overall and are an essential component of Vision Zero – the vision of accident-free driving. The system is also able to intervene in driving if dangerous situations occur. Advanced driver assistance systems make a decisive contribution to preventing accidents, and help save lives.

At CES 2023, Qualcomm highlighted the momentum of the Snapdragon Ride™ Platform, which has had an accelerated adoption rate from auto companies that are developing advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) and automated driving systems (ADS) solutions.

The Snapdragon Ride™ platform is a car-to-cloud, connected ADAS infrastructure that includes AI engines with functional safety built-in, flexible vision solutions supporting front and surround cameras, and simulation and continuous learning frameworks.

The first generation of Snapdragon Ride Platforms are available in commercial vehicles across the globe. Next-generation Snapdragon Ride Platforms are now sampling with all major Tier-1 suppliers who are targeting 2025 global production vehicles. The platforms are built with a 4-nanometer (4nm) system on a chip and integrated Snapdragon Ride Vision stack to support safety-critical systems through to comfort ADAS functions.

Working closely with automotive safety experts, the platforms are designed to meet the highest levels of safety across their hardware and software. Additionally, the Snapdragon Ride Platforms are engineered to be augmented by artificial intelligence (AI) accelerators to support an expanding ADAS/AD operational design domain.

The Snapdragon Ride Platforms support multimodal sensors, including cameras, radars, lidars, AD maps, and ultrasonic sensors. Automakers can also differentiate their solutions by utilizing the modules from the Snapdragon Ride Autonomous Driving stack with the Snapdragon Ride Vision system on Tier-1 hardware platforms that feature separate software stacks, such as parking and driver monitoring systems.
