Currently, 164 million Americans aged 16+ are in the labor force. Retail salespersons (3.69 million) make up the largest sector of workers followed by home health and personal care aides (3.37 million), cashiers (3.32 million), fast food and counter workers (3.10 million), registered nurses (3.05 million), general and operations manager (2.98 million), customer service representatives (2.79 million), laborers and freight, stock, and material movers, and hand (2.73 million), office clerks, general (2.58 million), stockers and order fillers (2.45 million).

Did you know the very first Labor Day celebration was held in 1882 when 10,000 workers assembled in New York for a parade? But it would take another 12 years before Congress officially made the first Monday in September a federal holiday in 1894

Today, 68% of Americans say Labor Day is their favorite holiday, but 75% of Americans confessed to leaving vacation days unused in 2021 and 51% of Americans have gone a year or longer without taking a vacation.

On average, Americans spend 7.8 hours at the workplace, and 5.6 hours working from home, while 61% of remote workers find it more difficult to unplug during off-hours now than before the pandemic.

Nonetheless, 61% of Americans plan to barbeque over the Labor Day weekend. And to give you a sense of scale, 818 hotdogs are eaten every second from Memorial Day to Labor Day.

70% of people say immigrants are a good thing for the U.S. (the lowest share since 2014). Click here to read more on Wallethub’s 2022 Labor Day Facts – Travel, Money & More.
