Unsung Heroes in the Rio Grande Valley

POSTED ON Jul 01, 2020

The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley has announced it is recognizing people who go overlooked.  Among them is David Torres, a systems engineer and a part-time adjunct faculty member. According to UTRGV news, he has been working for seven years to provide opportunity to participate in telecommute (working from home).

In a recent interview, Torres, who is also on the Staff Senate, said throughout the COVID-19 lock downs and stay-at-home orders, the UTRGV information technology (IT) department has continued providing services remotely.

“We engage in meetings, work groups and video conferences via many forms of communications,” he told UTRGV. ” This includes Skype, (Microsoft) Teams, phone calls, and Cisco Webex. We are comfortable in using multiple platforms, so we can make sure our UTRGV Vaqueros know we are still here for them,” he said.

Still, Torres noted how unpredictable the year has been with the pandemic.

“One piece of advice I can share with my peers is: Protect others by protecting yourself,” he said.
