The University of California Irvine’s Office of Data and Information Technology has announced a campus-wide initiative called UCI Comprehensive Analytics for Student Success (COMPASS). This effort involves various units working together to gather and analyze important data to enhance student success across the campus.
As per a press release, over 35 higher education leaders and almost 100 attendees gathered at UCI on March 30 and 31 for the Waypoints Symposium, a two-day event aimed at discussing data-driven student success.
Participants engaged in collaborative discussions and innovative approaches to address questions such as: How can we utilize data to promote learning and enhance student experiences? What steps can we take to improve data literacy campus-wide?
At the symposium held at the Anteater Learning Pavilion, attendees discussed various concepts related to cultural and institutional change. These included defining academic integrity, ensuring coherence in the curriculum, encouraging students to be partners, determining which data is necessary for governance, establishing course policies, and promoting post-COVID flexibility.
To facilitate discussion, the attendees were divided into small groups and used the active learning space. Tom Andriola, the Vice Chancellor of Data Information and Technology and facilitator of the symposium, emphasized the importance of institutional change management and the consideration of the human element in the process.
