Dr. Deborah His Horse is Thunder is responsible for successfully implementing several projects, such as the American Indian Higher Education Consortium Student Success Program. Currently, she is the founding president and chief executive officer of Wiya & Associates. The educational consulting firm serves tribal colleges, national, state, and local organizations, and tribal governments.

Dr. His Horse is Thunder also provides customized training and technical assistance to many of the nation’s tribal colleges. According to the Tribal College Journal of American Higher Education, the educator, administrator, and researcher has been a key figure in the tribal college movement for nearly 25 years.

She attended primary and secondary school on the Fort Peck Reservation, and eventually went on to enroll at the University of Montana where she earned her Doctor of Education in guidance and counseling.

One of more than 35 tribally-controlled community colleges, Aaniiih Nakoda College’s Beta Nu Alpha Chapter of the Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society also held an induction ceremony earlier the same week. The honor society serves to recognize and encourage the academic achievement of two-year college students.

ANC’s 2022 graduation ceremony was live-streamed for friends and family who could not attend the in-person ceremony at the Harlem High School gymnasium. During the graduation rehearsal on Thursday, May 5, students were encouraged to introduce themselves in either Nakoda or Aaniiih.
