Utah’s largest higher education institution is reporting higher enrollment for the 2019-2020 school year. According to Salt Lake Community College, the college has 6,636 new students this fall, with increases in the number of Latino/Hispanic students (2.9%).

“One of our institutional goals is to have our enrollment closely reflect the population of the communities we serve, and we are proud to be the most diverse college in the state,” said SLCC President Deneece G. Huftalin in a statement.

According to data on the SLCC’s website, the college is a top 10 producer of associate degrees awarded. Students can choose from more than 120 programs of study and 73 percent of students transfer to a 4-year institution. Thousands are trained in direct-to-workforce programs.

“For the past two years, SLCC staff worked to streamline our recruitment and enrollment processes,” said SLCC Vice President of Student Affairs Dr. Charles Lepper in the official college blog. “It’s good to see so many turning to the college for the education and training we offer in a broad range of programs.”

Programs in SLCC’s School of Applied Technology and Technical Specialties include apprenticeship training, computer programming, database administration, network, and computer systems administration, electronics, automation and instrumentation, engineering and technology, and coding for healthcare professionals.

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, applied technology occupations are expected to grow quite quickly over the next decade.
