The Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers has announced its 2018 Convention. More than 6,000 professionals, students, and industry leaders are expected to gather in Cleveland, Ohio, November 7-11 for five days of workshops, award ceremonies, and competitions under the theme “Better Together.”

The largest organization of Hispanic engineers in the U.S. said the theme is inspired by individuals, organizations, and communities who work together to encourage science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) talent development and improve diversity in the workplace.

Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPE) is comprised of a network of more than 300 chapters.

“According to the Census Bureau, Hispanics in the U.S. represent 15% of the workforce, but only 8% of the STEM workforce,” said SHPE CEO Raquel Tamez. “SHPE’s mission is to improve those numbers and empower Hispanics as leading innovators, scientists, mathematicians, and engineers. The SHPE National Convention is our chance each year to renew that mission and engage with the membership we serve to ensure progress is made.”

Over the 5-day event, attendees will interact with 200 employers actively recruiting, in seminars geared towards Latinas in STEM, pre-college, college, graduate students, and members with a special interest in Technology & Innovation.

The convention also includes the STAR Awards Gala, which recognizes key individuals and corporations who have contributed significantly to support Hispanics in STEM.
