In 2023, more Americans are making smarter financial decisions when it comes to purchasing a cell phone, with only 17% willing to go into debt, which is an 11.4% decrease from 2022.

According to the survey, more than half of Americans (56.9%) feel addicted to their cell phone, which is higher than last year’s percentage.

Some of the significant changes in cell phone usage habits include Americans checking their phones an average of 144 times per day, a 58% decrease since the last survey.

Additionally, 27.1% of Americans use or look at their phone while driving, which is a 1% decrease from last year. However, screen time has increased by 30%, and 60% of Americans still sleep with their phones at night.

Interestingly, Americans are becoming more protective of their devices as 82% of them would take their phone with them before evacuating in a disaster, which is a 26% increase from last year. Furthermore, fewer Americans are going into debt to purchase a cell phone.

On average, Americans spend 4 hours and 25 minutes on their mobile devices, compared to 2 hours and 54 minutes in 2022.

88.6% of respondents check their phones within the first 10 minutes of waking up, which is an increase of 10.6% from last year.

Distracted driving has decreased by 14.1% since last year, with only 27.1% of respondents admitting to using or looking at their phone while driving.

Review.org surveyed more than 1,000 Americans aged 18 and above. Respondents were asked to refer to their phone’s screen time report to determine their average daily check-ins and screen time. Click here to read the full report.
