Plan to bring Computer Science and Coding to schools across Chile

POSTED ON Jul 31, 2018

Chile has announced a plan to bring computer science to every student. As the initiative grows, thousands of schools across the South American country will work to integrate coding into the national curriculum.

A blog post by Code dot org said that thanks to the work of Fundación Kodea, Code dot org’s main partner in South America,  the Chilean government has launched the Plan for Digital Languages initiative, which will help students build digital skills to thrive in the 21st-century world.

Code.org is a nonprofit dedicated to expanding access to computer science and increasing participation by women and underrepresented minorities.

Code dot org said Chile’s Ministry of Education opened their Center for Innovation in July, and Sebastián Piñera Echeñique, president of the Republic of Chile, celebrated with an Hour of Code alongside primary students.

Fundación Kodea will collaborate with the Ministry of Education and Fundación Telefónica on the first phase of this initiative to prepare 100 teachers from the Estación Central, La Pintana, Lampa, and Huechuraba communities to use Code.org and Scratch as instructional tools in the classroom.
