OLLU among leading Hispanic-Serving Institutions, new survey shows

Our Lady of the Lake University has proudly announced that it has the fourth highest percentage of undergraduate Hispanics in the nation. According to a U.S. News & World Report survey, Texas A&M International boasts the largest percentage of Hispanic undergraduates in the nation (95 percent), followed by the University of Texas-Rio Grande Valley (91.7 percent), the University of Texas-El Paso (83.7 percent) and Our Lady of the Lake University (76 percent).

“We have been a leading Hispanic-serving Institution for many years,” said Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU) President Diane Melby in a statement. “The latest data from U.S. News & World Report not only underscores our commitment to the nation’s largest minority. It shows that Hispanics view OLLU as a great place to secure a bachelor’s degree.”

Our Lady of the Lake University ranks ahead of Hispanic-serving Institutions (HSIs) such as Texas A&M-Kingsville (71.5 percent), St. Mary’s University (67.5 percent), Florida International University (66.9 percent) and Cal State Los Angeles (65.6 percent).

A Hispanic-Serving Institution (HSI) is defined as an institution of higher education that has an enrollment of undergraduate full-time equivalent students that is at least 25 percent Hispanic students at the end of the award year immediately preceding the date of application.
