NACE’s 2022 Internship & Co-op Survey Report provides projections for internship and co-op programs for the 2021-22 academic year, but the bulk of the information presented represents data gathered from 2020-21 internship and co-op programs.

Bachelor-level intern salaries and co-op salaries continue an ascent seen in recent years. While the average hourly wage for 2020-21 interns is just $0.06 higher than that paid to interns in 2019-20, it is the highest hourly wage reported for interns and a jump of $1.28 from the average paid to 2018-19 interns ($19.54).

The hourly average wage for 2020-21 co-ops is a gain of $0.62 from that paid to co-ops in 2019-20 ($20.20). It is also a climb of more than $2 an hour above the average hourly wage of $18.69 paid to co-ops in 2017-18.

Historical data are also provided to indicate trends. Data collection took place from November 10, 2021, to January 12, 2022. There were 183 NACE member respondents representing 22.4% of eligible member respondents.

On June 7-9, NACE has announced it will be hosting the annual NACE Conference & Expo in Oregon. Featured speakers include Andrew Hoan, president and CEO of the Portland Business Alliance, Dr. Michelle R. Weise, author of Long-Life Learning: Preparing for Jobs that Don’t Even Exist Yet, and vice-chancellor of strategy and innovation, National University System.

Other nationally recognized leaders will share insights on changes in the demographic makeup of college students, the impact of corporate and employer partnerships on higher ed, key drivers and influences that contribute to student preparation and success, the changing nature of workforce needs and the changing workplace, the importance and impact of diversifying the workforce, and the next generation of employees’ expectations.
