New Bankrate study ranks engineering majors among most valuable

A Bankrate study of 162 degrees has revealed Naval architecture and marine engineering as some of the valuable college majors, based on salaries that graduates were able to earn and ease of landing a job. Most of the majors in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) had median incomes of at least $85,000, according to the study.

Bankrate, LLC is a consumer financial services company that helps people make smarter financial decisions.  For the study, Bankrate looked at the median incomes and unemployment rates of people based on which bachelor’s degree they obtained in college.

Most valuable college majors  include:

    • Naval architecture and marine engineering
    • Nuclear engineering
    • Pharmaceutical sciences and administration
    • Genetics
    • Electrical engineering
    • Architectural Engineering
    • Aerospace Engineering
    • Computer Engineering
    • Electrical Engineering Technology
    • Materials Science

Least valuable are Drama and theatre arts; visual and performing arts; composition and rhetoric; linguistics and comparative language and literature; and fine arts.
