In April, a Bipartisan Senate Resolution recognized the 30th Anniversary of the Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities (HACU) National Internship Program.

HNIP was also cited in the Hispanic Nine Point Plan by the Office of Personnel Management as a resource to increase the recruitment of Hispanic interns; and has produced over 14,000 alums who are now in the federal government, state or local government, and private industry.

HNIP recently announced that paid internships with federal agencies are available to students from all majors and backgrounds.

The agencies include the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC), Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation (PBGC), U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), U.S. Department of Interior (DOI) – U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS), and the Center for Disease and Control (CDC) Division of Laboratory Systems (DLS) Training and Workforce Development Branch.

Meanwhile, in partnership with Grow with Google, HACU will help Latino students at 35 Latino-dominated colleges prepare for the workforce through its Career Readiness Program.

The American Indian Science and Engineering Society (AISES) Internship Program places students in 10-week summer positions with partners. Some of the closed internships listed on the website include AISES LEIDOS Virtual Summer Internship, Aristocrat Internship, BMM Test Labs Internship, Bonneville Power Administration (BPA) Internships, Oracle Corporation 2019 Internship, and USDA Forest Service Forest Products Laboratory Internship.

Students must be enrolled members or descendants of an enrolled member of a federally or state-recognized American Indian Tribe, Alaska Native Village, or Native Hawai’ian or descendant of a Native Hawai’ian. Click here for more information.

The Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPE) recently launched its InternSHPE Webinar Series. The program is designed to reinforce engineering and STEM learning, build community, and ultimately result in increased persistence and degree completion for Hispanics in STEM.

Finally, although NASA is already placing Fall 22 which begins August 22, the 2023 Spring session begins on January 17, so there’s still time to apply.

The NASA Office of STEM Engagement is always advertising paid internships that allow high school and college-level students to contribute to agency projects under the guidance of a NASA mentor.

According to NASA, the Pathways program offers current students and recent graduates paid internships that are direct pipelines to full-time employment at NASA upon graduation. Click here to learn about some of the top things you need to know about NASA Internships.
