More than 100 HSIs get new awards from the ED

POSTED ON Oct 13, 2020

In 2019, the Department of Education’s Developing Hispanic-Serving Institutions (DHSI) program awarded more than 40 grants to Hispanic-Serving Institutions (HSIs) to make college attainable for Hispanic students and low-income students. This September, more than $69 million was made in new awards to over 100 HSIs.

According to the Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities (HACU),  248 grant applications were reviewed in 2020, and 118 Hispanic-Serving Institutions (HSIs) were selected to receive $69.4 million.  The maximum award size per grant award is $600,000 per year for a period of 5 years.

See the full list of DHSI awardees here.

The grants allow educational institutions to improve student services, including instruction courses designed to retain students and move them into core courses, purchase new scientific or laboratory equipment for teaching, provide academic tutoring or counseling programs, and distance learning academic instruction, among others.
