The Montana Girls STEM Collaborative was launched by the National Science Foundation (NSF) Established Program to Stimulate Competitive Research (EPSCoR), with co-leaders based at MSU’s Academic Technology and Outreach and the University of Montana’s spectrUM Discovery Area.

EPSCoR enhances the research competitiveness of states and territories by strengthening STEM capacity and capability. The Montana Girls STEM Collaborative has hubs at MSU and the University of Montana.

The Montana Girls STEM Collaborative brings together organizations that are committed to informing and motivating girls to pursue careers in STEM.

According to MSU, the grants were given in partnership with Lyda Hill Philanthropies, which created a database called the IF/THEN Collection that features profiles of 125 women scientists and engineers who serve as role models.

Projects that received funding include: Breaking the Ceiling: Helping Underrepresented Youth Get into Game Design and STEM; Code Girls United Summer Camp; Building a Library Maker Space; Role Model Billboards; Wise Wonders Children’s Museum; To Infinity and Beyond: Stargazing – Missoula; Promoting Girls in STEM; Coding Through Dance Mini-STEM Camp – Missoula; and Myra’s STEM Journey: Lifelong Learning, Advocacy, and Mentorship to Advance Transportation Technology and Inspire Future Innovators.
