How to Plan a Successful Summer Internship

POSTED ON Nov 19, 2019

Start early. According to Chegg Internships,  the summer internship season begins in autumn of the previous year. “It runs all the way through late May, with employers receiving the heaviest volume of applications between late February and early April,” Chegg notes. They also add that “while most would-be interns wait until spring to apply,” based on a recent Internship & Co-op Survey from the National Association of Colleges and Employers, employers begin the intern recruiting process eight months in advance.

One organization that offers internships year-round is the Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute.

The Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute (CHCI) was founded in 1978 by three members of Congress committed to creating a leadership institute to ensure a diverse and inclusive workforce that included talented Latino Americans.

For summer 2020, the Congressional Internship application deadline is  December 1, 2019.

According to CHCI, during CHCI’s paid internships, Latino undergraduate students experience what it’s like to work in a congressional office.

CHCI Congressional Interns learn firsthand the legislative system works, spending four days each week working with a member of Congress, responding to constituent inquiries, writing policy briefs, conducting legislative research on issues such as education, health, defense, science & technology.

During these weekly sessions, CHCI interns get to meet leaders from Capitol Hill, Fortune 500 companies, NGOs, nonprofits, and other organizations that support Latino education and leadership development.
