During Computer Science Week December 7-13, H Code, the largest Latino digital media company in the U.S., helped inspire Hispanic youth to explore science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM). Leading the effort was Nickelodeon, which leveraged the TV series “The Astronauts” and the Hispanic Heritage Foundation’s Code as a Second Language program.

“H Code believes in the power and potential of the Latinx community and is dedicated to empowering Hispanics across everything we do,” adds Parker Morse, CEO and founder of H Code. “As a leader in Hispanic digital advertising and tech, we are honored to partner with Nickelodeon and the Hispanic Heritage Foundation and inspire Latinx youth to explore these vital fields.”

The new initiative called “Lanza” launched in November as “The Astronauts” premiered on Nickelodeon and integrated into CSL camps. The coding camps feature an innovative curriculum along with a group of experts from the space science industry who share their experiences.

“We are thrilled to partner with Nickelodeon to create excitement around the tech field through this creative engagement that leverages the new series “The Astronauts” and the CSL program,” said Antonio Tijerino, president and CEO of Hispanic Heritage Foundation. “We have to be creative with how we introduce and encourage underrepresented youths to enter tech and STEM pathways and what better way to do that than through space exploration with Nickelodeon as the experts in youth engagement.”

Thousands of students attending Code as a Second Language activations got an exclusive preview of the new series “The Astronauts” on Nickelodeon.

Through the Hispanic Heritage Foundation’s Code as a Second Language initiative, Latino students are connected to each other, to mentors, and to the Latinos On Fast Track program for placement into the workforce.
