HACU to centerpiece Advocacy for 25th Annual Capitol Forum

POSTED ON Apr 20, 2020

Ahead of its 25th Annual Capitol Forum scheduled for April 21 to 22, the Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities (HACU) released an analysis of 2018-19 data that shows an increase in the number of Hispanic-Serving Institutions (HSIs) nationwide and growth in Hispanic student enrollment.

According to HACU, an analysis of reports published by the National Center of Education Statistics revealed that 16 new institutions became HSIs.

Other key findings in HACU’s analysis show:

  • HSIs now total 539 in twenty-five states, the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico.
  • 83 percent of HSIs are located in California, Texas, Florida, New York, Illinois, New Mexico, and Puerto Rico.
  • HSIs enroll two-thirds of all Latino undergraduates.
  • 46 percent of students at all HSIs are Latino.

In line with social distancing guidelines, HACU says the virtual Capitol Forum will offer an opportunity for increased participation and engage individuals in the advocacy and funding efforts for HSIs.

A State Delegation Information Session is also planned in preparation for the congressional teleconference and virtual meetings, as well as a Student Advocacy 101 session.
