According to HACU, panelists on the summit’s “Hispanic Energy Jobs: Increasing Innovation and Employment in the Renewable/Clean Energy Sector” session discussed science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) education pathways, as well as Hispanic representation in the occupational and technical workforce.

The Energy Legislative Summit engaged national leaders and partners in discussions and shaping solutions for increasing business, jobs, and corporate participation for Hispanics in America’s $3 trillion energy industry.

HACU also announced a special recognition award and a $45,000 grant presented at the summit. In attendance at the ceremony were José Pérez, chief executive officer of Hispanic in Energy, Antonio R. Flores, HACU president, and Lewis Binswanger of the Southern Company.

“HACU thanks the Southern Company Gas Foundation for the recognition of our Associations’ work with a grant award,” Flores said in a statement. This donation will help to further advance HACU’s important work to champion Hispanic success in higher education.”

In the fall of 2021, Southern Company Gas outlined plans to develop its overall sustainability strategy to implement the company’s path to net zero, identify opportunities for renewable gas and low carbon fuels and pursue clean technologies and practices.

Southern Company Gas serves approximately 4.3 million natural gas customers through its distribution companies in four states, and 666,000 retail customers through its companies that market natural gas. Other businesses include investments in interstate pipelines and ownership and operation of natural gas storage facilities.
