Elias Karam, a California State University, Fresno, College of Engineering student is on track to graduate this May, according to a Fresno State News article lauding his success. Karam holds a 3.80 GPA and completed a summer 2018 internship at Northrup Grumman. On Saturday, May 18, he is set to be one of 44 Smittcamp Family Honors College students to graduate from Fresno State. He will receive his bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering and minor in physics.

The Smittcamp Family Honors College scholarship “lifted the financial burden of attending college off my parents,” Karam told Fresno State. “They did not have an option when it came to education, and it’s something that I consider myself truly blessed to have here in America.”

Since 2015, Karam has represented the Eta Kappa Nu, an honors society where he served as secretary and has been inducted into the Tau Beta Pi honors society. He is a member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) Student Chapter at Fresno State.

In 2018, Karam was elected as executive vice president for Associated Students, Inc., where he served as chair of the student senate and a voice for about 25,000 students at Fresno State.

In that position, he represented the student body in meetings with university administration, faculty, the California State University system, and California state government officials. In this role, Karam helped manage a $750,000 annual budget and is a voting member for the committee that awards $1.2 million in grants annually.

“My Fresno State experience can be summarized in four words: academics, involvement, service, and exploration,” said Karam. “A dream job for me is one where I can take part in both this technological innovation and societal policy change.” Read more here.
