‘Exciting moments’ for ALPFA

Damian Rivera is the new chief executive officer of the Association of Latino Professionals for America (ALPFA), one of the largest Hispanic organizations. Rivera succeeds Charles Garcia, who served as ALPFA’s CEO since 2014.

“After an extensive eight-month search, we are thrilled to welcome Damian to ALPFA,” said Board Chair Yvonne Garcia. “Damian is passionate about our mission of developing Latino business leaders and driving value to our community.”

Recently, Rivera, who holds a degree in chemical and biochemical engineering from Rutgers University, served as a managing director in Accenture’s Resources Utilities practice, where he led some of the firm’s largest utility clients in New York, New Jersey, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut, New Hampshire, and Pennsylvania.

Rivera was also responsible for the North American Hispanic employee resource group (ERG), a role in which he led the strategic direction of internal career progression for all 16 ERGs across the U.S.

“I am eager to join ALPFA at this exciting moment, when Latinos are taking even larger and more important assignments in so many parts of the U.S. economy,” Rivera said.

In related news, ALPFA presented Texas A&M accounting senior Juan Ortiz with a national award in August.

Ortiz received the Daniel Zamora Student of the Year Award at ALPFA’s national conference. The award is given to an individual who has demonstrated leadership qualities,  devoted countless hours to their ALPFA chapter, and promoted the organization amongst their peers.

On campus, Ortiz served as vice president of both internal and external student affairs and was selected as president of Texas A&M’s Hispanic President’s Council, an organization that unites student Latinx organizations.
