Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute shares COVID-19 safety tips and resources

POSTED ON Mar 23, 2020

The Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute has released a list of COVID-19 resources for the community. Although the CHCI has postponed its Health Summit to June 16, the caucus says it will continue to share information about helpful resources. Please read the full text below.

Like all of you, CHCI is deeply concerned about the COVID-19 (Coronavirus) outbreak. In response, we have taken action to ensure the safety, health, and well-being of everyone we engage including telework for all our staff, supporting our program participants in either returning home early or teleworking at their placements with all leadership programming now virtual, and as previously announced, postponing our upcoming Health Summit to June 16. We will continue to monitor the situation and further adapt our programming and events as needed. We urge everyone to follow the directives and guidance to stay in your homes and away from other people as much as possible to reduce the spread of the virus, and to take extra precautions – for example, washing hands frequently, wiping down surfaces with disinfectants – to protect your own health.

During these challenging times, it is imperative that we work together to fight any further spread of COVID-19. We appreciate the tremendous responses from many of our private sector allies, and those from the public and nonprofit sector as part of an overall effort to ensure the health of our communities, and want to help share information about that work.

For example, our partners at Amazon, Bank of America, Facebook, PepsiCo, and Walmart have pledged millions to increase medical response capacity, food security, and financial support to communities and small businesses across the country.

Similarly, our telecommunications and technology partners such as AT&T, Charter, Comcast, Dell, Google, T-Mobile, and Verizon are working to ensure that under-served communities, including the millions of students now engaged in distance learning and employees now teleworking all stay connected.

Our transportation partners Hyundai, Lyft, Toyota, and Uber are providing necessary resources to ensure the health and safety of their customers and employees.

Our media partners Telemundo and Univision are providing valuable information on their networks and digital platforms to educate and inform our communities about the virus, and what people can do to protect their health.

Finally, our partners in biotechnology, including Gilead Sciences, are working closely with global and national health authorities to respond to the COVID-19 outbreak through biomedical research.

Additional Resources

Here are a number of resources from the public and nonprofit sectors we have gathered so far to help individuals and families be safe and withstand the economic slowdown, especially those most vulnerable at this time. It is not an exhaustive list, but we hope these resources will provide support for many. We will share more as we are able.
