Andrea Chavez earned a bachelor’s degree in aerospace engineering from The University of Texas at Austin in 2004. The same year, she won the Miss Austin title and was a semi-finalist for the Miss Texas USA pageant. Almost a decade into her engineering career, she earned peer-to-peer recognition with a Vertical Flight Society award that recognizes the outstanding contributions of emerging leaders.

Today, Andrea continues to foster innovation in a new generation of students pursuing careers in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM), and vertical flight technology.

As a manager at Bell Innovation, she leads a team that works on next-generation unmanned Vertical Take-off and Lift technology, including urban air mobility taxis. Andrea holds patents for a non-metallic debris monitor, a helicopter driveshaft frictional damper, and an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) with in-flight adjustable wings.

She has also authored American Helicopter Society (AHS) technical papers and presented findings on helicopter propulsion research at AHS propulsion specialists’ meetings and technical forums. Outside of work, she enjoys spending time with her husband, Jeremy, and their two sons.
