We hear a lot about how the Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC) help families with sick children each year.  But have you heard that the charitable division of the McDonald’s Corporation has awarded over $48 million in college scholarships?

Scholarship winners are selected based on academic achievement, financial need, and community involvement. Currently, there are four RMHC McDonald’s Scholarship programs open to high school seniors. To apply for one of McDonald’s African American Future Achievers scholarships, you must have at least one parent of African American or Black Caribbean heritage. For one of McDonald’s ASIA scholarships, you must have at least one parent of Asian-Pacific heritage.

The RMHC/Hispanic American Commitment to Educational Resources (HACER) Scholarship Program was founded by Richard Castro of El Paso, Texas, with the support of RMHC, McDonald’s Corporation, and local Hispanic McDonald’s owner/operators throughout the country. Castro established the program after noticing increasing school drop-out rates among Hispanic students due to financial difficulties.

The RMHC/HACER Scholarship Program provides awards ranging from $1,000 to $100,000 per student and is one of the country’s largest college scholarship programs for graduating Hispanic high school students. For the local HACER Scholarships, you must reside within the geographic boundaries of a participating RMHC chapter. For the McDonald’s® HACER® National Scholarship, you must provide a FAFSA report and/or 1040s.
