As states across the country begin to reopen,  online applications are being accepted through May 14 for a program that helps college students traveling to and from college or university. According to the announcement, recipients who travel at least 200 miles from home to pursue higher education may be awarded 1-4 roundtrip tickets.

The ¡Lánzate!/Take Off! Travel Program, which is sponsored by the Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities (HACU) in conjunction with Southwest Airlines, is now in its sixteenth year.

“For more than 15 years, these travel awards have provided college students the opportunity to visit their families when they may not have otherwise had the financial means to travel back home,” said HACU President and CEO Antonio R. Flores in the statement. “We are grateful to Southwest Airlines for their partnership in this important program and for championing Hispanic success in higher education.”

Laura Nieto, director of community outreach at Southwest, called the program a unique model that provides students the opportunity to discover higher education pathways while remaining connected to their families.

“Our longstanding partnership with HACU further demonstrates Southwest’s commitment to life-changing transportation, because we believe when students achieve their educational pursuits, communities thrive,” Nieto said.

The program is open to graduate and undergraduate students enrolled in a two- or four-year university, with at least a 2.5 GPA. For more details, visit www.hacu.net
