In 2018, David Segura, co-founder of the Hispanic Executive IT Council (HITEC) and one of Hispanic Engineer magazine’s “Most Influential Hispanics in Technology” moderated an event held to mark the launch of the Latino Entrepreneurship report. That study had responses from 5,000+ Latino-owned companies around the U.S.

For the seventh annual  State of Latino Entrepreneurship report,  researchers at the Stanford Latino Entrepreneurship Initiative said they had administered the largest survey to date of 15,000 business owners — 7,500 Latino-owned employer businesses and 7,500 non-Latino, White-owned employer businesses as a benchmark comparison group.

The 2021 report explores jobs created by Latinos—the fastest-growing segment of the U.S. business population; the impact of COVID-19, and the financial viability of Latino-owned employer businesses.

The report also looks into job opportunities within Latino-owned businesses with at least one paid employee other than the owner. In addition, there are five case studies with Latino entrepreneurs, all former participants of the State of Latino Entrepreneurship Initiative (SLEI)-Education Scaling program.

The report was compiled by Marlene Orozco, associate director of SLEI, Jonathan Furszyfer, research analyst, SLEI, economics professor Paul Oyer, and Jerry Porras, Professor Emeritus, Organizational Behavior.

On Twitter, the Latino Business Action Network, a nonprofit that collaborates with Stanford University on programs for entrepreneurs, shared the good news about how Latinos are resilient emerging from COVID, Latinos in tech, Latino job creation, and much more.
