The University of California, San Diego (UC San Diego) has announced 7,800 degrees were awarded this weekend. “It was very special to be able to celebrate many of our graduates in person!,” UCSD posted on Facebook. Among the “shining stars” of the Class of 2021 was Jennifer Rocha from Coachella. She took photos in the farm fields where she worked with her parents to thank them for teaching her the importance of getting an education.

Jennifer Rocha’s story on UC San Diego’s Facebook page has garnered 33,000 emojis since June 9.

“Not an immigrant but a refugee here who is ‘02 alumni! Tenacity, hard work, focus, and perseverance come in handy. Awesome job! Your parents must be so proud!” wrote Emil Sunjic.
