According to HACU, its National Internship Program (HNIP) offers paid internships in federal agencies to students from all majors and backgrounds. Applicants do NOT need Hispanic heritage. HACU is the only national association representing existing and emerging Hispanic-Serving Institutions (HSIs).

Currently, HACU’s federal agency partners include the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), the National Science Foundation (NSF), the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Food and Drug Administration (FDA), National Institute of Health (NIH), U.S. Department of the Interior (DOI), Bureau of Land Management (BLM), and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS).

Summer 2023 positions include Visual Information Trainee, Natural Resources Conservation Service Engineering Intern, Agricultural Research Service Biological Science Aid, Natural Resources Conservation Service Natural Resources Trainee, Outdoor Recreation Planner, Conducting Status Assessments for Threatened and Endangered Species Intern, and Division of Laboratory Systems (DLS) Training and Workforce Development Branch (TWDB) Intern.

In April 2022, the Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities applauded the U.S. Senate for recognizing the contributions made by the HACU National Internship Program. A bipartisan Senate Resolution introduced by U.S. Senators Bob Menendez (D-N.J.) and Alex Padilla (D-Calif.), co-founders and co-chairs of the Hispanic-Serving Institutions Senate Caucus, alongside Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas) recognized the 30th Anniversary of the HACU National Internship Program.

The Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities, founded in 1986, represents more than 500 colleges and universities in the United States, Latin America, Spain, and school districts throughout the U.S.
