Florida Universities Offer Opportunities for Experiential Learning Beyond the Classroom

POSTED ON Aug 22, 2023

On August 21, 2023, Florida International University welcomed over 5,000 first-time students and thousands more returning students for the fall semester. It was a day of new beginnings for many at the campus.

Florida International University hosts an Internship Fair during the fall semester, providing an excellent opportunity for FIU students from all majors to meet recruiters looking for interns.

The Internship Fair is exclusive to FIU students, and those interested in attending can register via Handshake under the Fairs section or by clicking the Student Registration option below.

To participate, students must dress professionally, have a digital copy of their resume, and possess an FIU email account.

Before attending the fair, students must attend a Prepare for the Internship Fair Workshop, a Resume Writing Workshop, and get assistance from a Peer Career Coach through the Hybrid Drop-In Program.

Researching the employers present at the Career Fair via Handshake is also essential. The upcoming Internship Fair is scheduled for September 18, 2023, from 11:00 A.M. to 3:00 P.M.

Last month, 12 new students were welcomed by Florida State University’s Garnet & Gold Scholar Society for the summer 2023 semester. The society was founded in 2010 and recognizes undergraduate students who excel in areas beyond the classroom, such as internship, leadership, research, and service.

To become an inductee, students must meet engagement criteria and submit a synthesis reflection project in their final semester before graduation.

This recognition is added to their transcript, increasing their marketability to employers and graduate programs. Osiano Isekenegbe, Kaylee Cumbo, Eva Hasenhuttl, Samantha Salisbury, and Michelle Evangelista were among the inductees.

FSUshadow is a unique experiential learning opportunity provided by Florida State University, which helps prepare students for future professions by offering them opportunities to explore career fields through job shadowing.

The program started in 2016, and the FSU Career Center hosts it during academic breaks, allowing students to shadow individuals within industries they wish to pursue.

The program connected 168 student participants with 46 employers this spring, including Nike, Pfizer, and The Blackstone Group. FSUshadow also provides organizations with the chance to connect with potential future recruits.

This year’s summer session occurred in person and virtually on August 7th, 8th, and 9th.

The FAU Career Center at Florida Atlantic University has announced the dates for their upcoming career fairs. These fairs aim to support FAU students in exploring their career options and achieving their internship or job goals.

The dates for the upcoming fairs are as follows: Thursday, September 14 for the Career and Internship Fair; Friday, September 22 for the Accounting & Finance Career Fair; Thursday, September 28 for the Government & Social Services Networking Event; Thursday, October 5 for the Internship & Part-Time Job Fair; Thursday, October 17 for the Technology & Engineering Career Fair; Thursday, October 26 for the Graduate & Professional School Fair; and Thursday, November 9 for the Virtual Career Fair.
