Discovery world announced that they are planning to open a new science, technology, engineering, and math lab, in support from Pittsburg-based PPG, next week.

Discovery world is a non-profit science and technology center for the whole family. The center has several hands-on exhibits and programs that focus mainly on two areas: technology and freshwater sciences.

They serve a mission to spark curiosity in kids and inspire them to be the next generation of engineers, designers, scientists, innovators, community leaders, and makers.

Discovery World and the PPG STEM Lab will offer hands-on learning programs throughout the summer for students and teachers. The lab will also be open to museum guests on the weekend for workshops as well. There will be concepts and experiments exploring chemistry and engineering.

“Through our collaboration with Discovery World, PPG designers have helped transform an existing lab space into a highly visible engaging and energizing area for community youth […] the lab has had numerous enhancements and modifications, improved the functionality of the space and gives students access to a wider variety of STEM-based activities,” said Malesia Dunn, executive director of PPG Foundation and Corporate Global Social Responsibility.

A celebration for the opening of the lab was held on Tuesday.
