Walter Alvarado is Vice President, System & Transmission Operation at Con Edison.
Con Edison is a subsidiary of Consolidated Edison, Inc., one of the nation’s largest energy companies. The utility provides electric, gas and steam service to more than 3 million customers in New York City and Westchester County, New York.
Alvarado has held positions of increasing responsibility within Con Edison including Vice President, Staten Island & Electric Services, and General Manager, Brooklyn Queens Electric Operations.
As General Manager, Manhattan Electric Construction, he managed and led the team (90+ management and 560+ union) that controls the construction and maintenance of Manhattan’s electric distribution system in a safe, efficient, and cost-effective manner.
Alvarado also served as Incident Commander and was responsible for the restoration of power to lower Manhattan after Super Storm Sandy in 2012.
He holds a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering and a Master of Science in Computer Science from NYU Polytechnic School of Engineering. He has attended advanced executive management training at Columbia Business School as well as advanced professional programs offered by Gas Technology Institute and Power Technologies Incorporated.
