The Johnson Space Center and the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) launched a Digital Engineering Design Center (DEDC) aimed at supporting NASA’s groundbreaking missions, such as creating human settlements on the moon. UTEP will be managing the DEDC.

The University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) and NASA announced the opening of a Digital Engineering Design Center (DEDC) at the Johnson Space Center. The DEDC, run by UTEP, will focus on pioneering NASA missions, including the establishment of human settlements on the moon.

The Digital Engineering Design Center will be operated by faculty from Engineering UTEP and located at NASA Johnson.

UTEP President Heather Wilson highlighted the importance of partnerships with agencies like NASA in developing necessary talent. The DEDC will employ talented students from underserved areas in Houston to teach them in-demand digital engineering skills.

The center will work to design an entirely digital production system that can transform lunar surface material into oxygen for use as rocket fuel.

UTEP Aerospace Center engineers will train two NASA engineers to integrate the digital engineering paradigm into their design and development processes.
