UTSA Today, the official news source of The University of Texas at San Antonio, recently revealed the names of ten students who have been selected for its Fall 2023 Top Scholar program. This program is a four-year course that offers a merit-based scholarship and personalized experiences in academics, leadership, and community service.
Out of over 200 applicants, only 33 finalists were invited to attend the campus earlier this year. The ten students selected to join the Top Scholar Roadrunner family this fall are among the top 3% of their high school class and scored an average SAT/ACT score of 1425/32, respectively.
Managed by the UTSA Honors College, the Top Scholar program is a community of outstanding students who are intellectually curious and eager to seek knowledge and achievement. The program concentrates on learning, leadership, and service and is well-known throughout Texas for producing award-winning and academically talented student leaders.
Each Top Scholar is granted a scholarship, which covers up to four years (eight fall/spring semesters) of tuition, fees, and room and board funding. Moreover, the scholars receive assistance for internships and study abroad programs.
Furthermore, Top Scholars benefit from programming that includes interaction with senior university and community leaders, attending conferences, meeting scholars in their chosen fields, one-on-one advising and personalized career development, and participation in cultural and community service events.
To remain a part of the program, UTSA Top Scholars must maintain a GPA of 3.5, live on campus, complete 30 hours each academic year, complete at least one community service and leadership development project, and actively participate in all aspects of the program.
Applications for the Fall 2024 class will open in September 2023 and are due on December 1, 2023. UTSA Top Scholars are required to be Texas residents entering college for the first time. The most competitive students are those who rank within the top 5% of their high school class and score 1440 or higher on the new SAT or 32 or higher on the ACT. Click here for more information.
Besides academic excellence, UTSA Top Scholars are selected based on their record of volunteerism, community engagement, and leadership experiences. For example, current and past scholars are Eagle Scouts, founders of non-profit organizations, involved in school clubs and extracurricular activities, and many volunteer in their community.
The UTSA Honors College is home to about 1,800 students across all majors and offers one of the most unique experiential honors curricula in the nation.
