CPS Energy, a municipally owned gas and electric utility, has been running its internship program for over 30 years to develop future employees and strengthen the local workforce.

To celebrate National Intern Day on July 27, CPS Energy recognized 43 summer interns who joined the team to gain experience and learn more about the energy industry.

The program is designed for high school and college students to expand their knowledge through hands-on learning opportunities. The summer internship program runs for ten weeks from June 5 to August 11, 2023.

Interns receive mentorship from employees across various departments, including Power Generation, Customer Experience, Data Science, Cyber Security, Finance, and Talent Development.

The program offers valuable hands-on experience and exposure to professionals in the industry. CPS Energy offers internship programs year-round, some of which lead to full-time employment.

Kayla Berlanga, a general business analyst in the technology and product innovation department, was hired after completing her Spring 2023 internship and graduating from Texas A&M University.

Berlanga praises the internship program for providing a positive environment that taught her teamwork while helping the San Antonio community. She believes that her education and internship experience were crucial in allowing her to be a part of the thriving CPS Energy company and looks forward to a promising career there.
