The Apprenticeship.gov website celebrated National Apprenticeship Day on April 30, 2025. According to the site, over 2,500 events and proclamations took place across America to mark the 10th anniversary of National Apprenticeship Week in 2024.

In the spring of 2023, Miami Dade College (MDC) recognized National Apprenticeship Day by announcing its partnership with employers to offer Registered Apprenticeship and Pre-Apprenticeship Programs.

These programs combine classroom instruction with paid on-the-job training. MDC’s offerings include building automation partnerships with Johnson Controls, Inc., and Siemens Industry, Inc., and construction trades (carpentry, electrical, HVAC, plumbing) with Palmetto Homes Urban Development Group.

MDC is the first academic institution in Florida to receive the designation of Program Sponsor from the Florida Department of Education.

It has also been named an Apprenticeship Ambassador by the Department of Labor. The college offers 15 occupations and boasts the highest number of Registered Apprenticeship Programs of any educational institution in Florida.

These programs allow employers to establish and implement industry standards for training registered apprentices, which can lead to increased productivity and improved workforce quality. The industry recognizes apprentices who complete a registered apprenticeship program as Masters.

The dean of Career and Technical Education and chair of the Apprenticeship Program at MDC expressed excitement about the collaboration with local employers and other community partners to bring employment opportunity to students and the community at large.

The apprenticeships and pre-apprenticeship programs are crucial for creating jobs, employing South Florida residents, and fueling the economy. In 2022, CU Denver announced its first-ever apprenticeship program housed within the College of Engineering, Design, and Computing (CEDC).

The program is designed to benefit both students and employers. According to CU Denver, their apprenticeship program focuses on two in-demand fields: construction project management and user experience design.

The construction project management apprenticeship is offered in partnership with CU Denver’s Facilities Management team. In contrast, the user experience designer apprenticeship is affiliated with the CEDC’s Inworks, an innovative community of collaborative learners.

These programs are open to all students pursuing a CEDC bachelor’s degree, regardless of their GPA, as long as they have completed the required base-level classes.
