Welcome days set solid foundations for new students

POSTED ON Sep 18, 2024

The San Mateo County Community College District recently announced that after securing free college for San Mateo County residents through Senate Bill 893, the board is now focused on making this initiative permanent.

Last month, the College of San Mateo (CSM) hosted its annual Bulldog Welcome Day, welcoming over 300 new students to campus.

The event was organized by the Center for Student Life and Counseling Services, and it aimed to help new students start their academic journey with information and support.

CSM President Manuel Alejandro Pérez and Vice President of Student Services Alex Guiriba welcomed the new students.

Guiriba noted, “Bulldog Welcome Day is a significant opportunity for new students to connect with the campus and feel supported as they begin their education at CSM.

The event included a student panel where panelists shared their experiences and advice.

Alumni also discussed wellness and mental health resources available to students.

The event concluded with lunch, allowing students to connect with peers and faculty while enjoying a meal together.

By the end of Bulldog Welcome Day 2024, new students had the knowledge and connections to thrive at the College of San Mateo, setting a solid foundation for their academic journey.
