Since its founding in 1994, the Latino Student Fund (LSF) has supported more than 4,000 children. According to an LSF statement, 100 percent of their 12th-grade students have graduated from high school, as compared to 85% of Hispanic/Latino students nationally and 55% in the District of Columbia (D.C.) Public Schools system.
Over 90 percent of LSF high school graduates have enrolled in institutions of higher education, as compared to less than 50 percent nationally.
LSF was established to address the growing high school dropout rates of Hispanic/Latino students in Washington, D.C. Over the past two decades, LSF has continued to develop new services to meet the evolving educational needs of the Hispanic/Latino community. All LSF services are bilingual and offered free of charge.
Current programs include comprehensive college access and preparation services, weekly one-on-one tutoring and summer camp scholarships for at-risk youth, parent literacy and advocacy services; school fairs, admissions workshops and family consultation; tuition stipends to local independent and parochial schools.
LSF posted the tweet below on Monday, January 21st.
Today marks the 25th Anniversary of the Latino Student Fund! Thank you to everyone who has supported us through all these years. Your belief in our mission has allowed us to serve thousands of underprivileged children in the DC area. We wouldn’t be here without you! #LSF25th
