The University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) has announced that its enrollment growth is primarily driven by its programs in engineering, business, nursing, and health sciences.

According to data shared by UTEP last week, the total student population has reached 26,297, marking a significant increase in the number of first-time-in-college students.

For the fourth consecutive year, UTEP has set a new record for freshman enrollment, with 4,501 students—an increase of almost 15% over last year’s cohort.

In a press release, UTEP President Heather Wilson stated that this milestone reflects the trust that students and their families place in the value of a UTEP degree.

She emphasized that UTEP is proud to be the university of choice for many exceptional first-generation students, local students, and others from outside the region who are eager to build their futures.

Fall 2025 enrollment stands at 26,297, which is up by more than 1,200 students compared to last year’s figure of 25,039, and surpasses the previous high of 25,177 set in Fall 2019.

The College of Nursing has seen a 12.1% increase in enrollment this year, with a total of 2,761 students.

Additionally, the Woody L. Hunt College of Business has reported 3,944 enrolled students this fall, reflecting an 11.1% year-over-year increase.

This growth indicates strong demand for both its undergraduate and graduate programs. The college has recently introduced new programs focused on U.S.-Mexico trade and commerce, supported by a transformative gift from the Hunt Family Foundation, and will continue to build on this initiative.

In August, UTEP announced that it will be offering nearly $3 million in annual scholarships to mining engineering students.

Amanda Vasquez-Vicario, vice president for enrollment management, noted that UTEP’s success aligns with ongoing efforts to support student achievement from application through graduation.

The university has enhanced academic advising, financial aid support, and invested in experiential learning to create a comprehensive ecosystem designed to help students thrive. Notably, 84% of UTEP students are Hispanic, and more than half are the first in their families to attend college.
