In July, new research from the University of Texas at Arlington aimed at improving the effectiveness of radiation therapy to cure cancer and other diseases will be recognized by the American Association of Physicists in Medicine.
Earlier this year, UTA announced it is joining forces with the Texas A&M Engineering Experiment Station to operate the National Center for Therapeutics Manufacturing Satellite Campus at Pegasus Park in Dallas.
The collaboration of UTA’s Institute of Biomanufacturing and Precision Medicine and partners is an extension of the National Center for Therapeutics Manufacturing in College Station to expand UTA’s biomanufacturing capabilities and shape the future of therapeutic manufacturing.
As artificial intelligence (AI) increasingly impacts various scientific fields, a new project at UTA aims to build on research conducted by UTA’s Center for Innovation in Health Informatics.
This two-year project aims to develop an algorithm that utilizes AI and machine learning to send personalized messages to cancer survivors in real-time, tailored to their individual needs. The algorithm will leverage data from wearables and smartphones, ensuring that each message reaches the right person at the most impactful moment.
Currently, there is limited research in this area, but the UTA team’s work has the potential to revolutionize the design and delivery of behavioral interventions.
By recognizing patterns in user data, AI can identify and select the most appropriate message for each individual.
The UTA research team includes an assistant professor from the public health program in the Department of Kinesiology, an associate professor from the Department of Communication, a professor and associate chair from the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, and a collaborator from MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston.
They have received a grant from the Cancer Prevention and Research Institute of Texas to develop a personalized strategy to support physical activity among cancer survivors.
UTA is recognized as a Carnegie R1 university, ranking among the nation’s top 5% of institutions for research activity.
