Marie Lynn Miranda, a renowned expert in geospatial health informatics, assumed the role of Chancellor of the University of Illinois, Chicago in July 2023.

On  April 4th, 2024, the university community formally recognized Miranda as UIC’s 10th Chancellor.

The Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities (HACU) shared a photo on social media congratulating Miranda on her investiture in Chicago.

The inauguration ceremony took place in the Isadore and Sadie Dorin Forum, the first of its kind for a UIC chancellor.

Before her appointment at UIC, Miranda was the provost of the University of Notre Dame and a faculty member in its applied and computational mathematics and statistics department.

She also held leadership roles at Rice University, the University of Michigan, and Duke University.

During the ceremony, Miranda highlighted the recent achievements of UIC students, faculty, and staff.

She also emphasized  UI Health’s commitment to access and world-class care as well as UIC’s economic impact.

Miranda also recognized the groundbreaking work of an associate professor of electrical engineering and faculty colleagues, who received a $4.8 million grant to train the next generation of quantum engineers through a consortium of Historically Black Colleges and Universities, Hispanic-serving institutions, and institutions serving predominantly female students.

In addition, Miranda announced a $10 million gift that will launch a nurse anesthetist program.

Other investiture events included a student dance party, the third installment of SparkTalks — lightning talks by UIC faculty members about their research — and a day of service at community sites in and around Chicago.
