According to the University of Illinois Chicago, Eyzel Torres-Vicencio developed a passion for science at a young age, starting with studying insects.
In high school, she excelled in biology. With her father and older brother being artistically inclined, Torres-Vicencio gained an early appreciation for art.
At UIC, she graduated with a master’s degree in biomedical visualization from the College of Applied Health Sciences on May 4.
Biomedical visualization involves using art, animation, and other visual media to explain medical or biological information and is considered a niche field.
UIC is among a handful of universities in the U.S. that offer a master’s degree in this field.
During the UIC commencement ceremony, various graduation caps displayed different messages, symbolizing the diverse areas of study and the gratitude of the graduates.
UIC celebrated the graduation of 3,335 new graduates, 46% of whom are the first in their families to attend college.
Additionally, 20% of the graduating class is affiliated with one or more UIC success centers, which provide comprehensive support services to help students navigate academic challenges, access resources, and feel a sense of belonging within the UIC community.
These centers have significantly contributed to the success of the graduates.
