POSTED ON Jul 30, 2019

A new Twitter Engineering Apprenticeship was launched early July. The program hopes to grow a new generation of leaders from groups underrepresented in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM). Self-taught coders, veterans, caregivers, people returning to the workforce, women, Latinx, Native American are all welcome to apply, according to a blog post by engineering lead Mike Montano and Dalana Brand, vice president and head of Inclusion & Diversity.

Twitter will promote the one-year apprenticeship program with full-time employment benefits. Upon completion, participants will join one of Twitter’s engineering teams. The blog post added:

“We are working to significantly grow our company and our technical workforce in the next year. This program will help us bring up-and-coming talent in our engineering and data science teams across our San Francisco, Boulder, and New York offices.

“Over the course of 12 months, you’ll participate in a rotation program within Twitter Engineering, helping build Twitter for Android, iOS, or web, working on our back-end systems, or on our Data Science team. The program is designed for applicants with at least two years of any work experience and will provide hands-on experience while pairing applicants with dedicated coaches and mentors to set you up for a successful career in engineering.”

Applications are now open and will close on July 31.  Click here for more information on the Twitter Engineering Apprenticeship Program.

The Pew Research Center calculates that while 28% of African-American and Hispanic internet users use Twitter just 20% of their white counterparts do so. Meanwhile, 90% of its employees are white or Asian with just 4% hailing from a Latino background and a mere 3% being African-American.
