Since joining the workforce in 2009, Marlene Contreras has become a highly regarded science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) professional. She has also served as site director for the White Sands chapter of the Hispanic Organization for Leadership Advancement (HOLA).
In this role, Marlene has supported the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) Science and Engineering Extravaganza (SEE) organized by the joint student chapter of the Society of Mexican American Engineers and Scientists and the Society of Hispanic and Professional Engineers. During one event, approximately 350 students from six El Paso high schools attended.
Early in her career, Marlene demonstrated a mastery of software development. Software developed by Marlene monitored launcher to missile interface signals in support of ground-to-ground and ground-to-air operations, which is critical to successful system performance analysis. These missions verify the operation of the telemetry uplink and downlink communication of the Patriot Radar system during simulated flight.
