On December 10, 2024, Hartnell College celebrated the achievements of graduates from the Advanced Automotive Technology program for the 2020-2022 cohorts. This year, 17 graduates received toolboxes, which significantly enhance their employability in the automotive field.

The event included the presentation of toolboxes to each student, made possible by the Don Crawford Memorial Fund at the Hartnell College Foundation.

The foundation initiated the Advanced Automotive Technology program in 2019, awarding the first toolbox that year.

In October 2024, California State University, Monterey Bay President Vanya Quiñones and Hartnell College President Michael Gutierrez held a signing ceremony at CSUMB to launch the joint Panther Otter Pathway program.

This program enables students to complete a single, simplified application to enroll in Hartnell and apply to CSUMB with guaranteed admission.

Both presidents signed ceremonial documents for the program and posed for pictures with their mascots, Hartnell’s Oscar the Panther and CSUMB’s Monte Rey sea otter.

In 2020, Hartnell College introduced “Oscar the Panther,” a multilingual artificial intelligence (AI) enrollment management chatbot that offers students 24/7 access to self-service resources across campus.

This initiative includes Ocelot, a leading AI enrollment and advising platform in higher education. Hartnell College joins many institutions utilizing Ocelot’s extensive knowledge base and library of online video content to enhance their chatbot’s functionality.

The Ocelot chatbots provide accurate and consistent information to students, reducing reliance on phone calls, campus visits, or large group presentations.

Hartnell noted that making initial phone calls can be uncomfortable for many students, and the chatbot offers a more approachable way to gather information.

Colleges choose to build chatbots on Ocelot’s platform to enhance virtual student support and improve customer service.

Ocelot is the #1 provider of AI chatbots in higher education, serving over 6.5 million students across more than 400 institutions.

The Ocelot platform allows student service departments to deliver personalized virtual advising and support, helping them achieve enrollment, retention, engagement goals, and access equity initiatives.
