The American Indian College Fund and Pendleton Woolen Mills have announced that they are accepting submissions for The Tribal College Blanket Design Contest.
American Indian and Alaska Native students attending a tribal college or university can submit up to two designs.
The deadline for submissions is January 15, 2025.
Now in its fifth year, the Tribal College Blanket Design Contest showcases the work of talented artists attending TCUs.
Winners of the competition will have their designs featured on products and will receive scholarships and cash prizes.
The winning designs will be included in Pendleton’s American Indian College Fund collection of wool blankets.
Pendleton has partnered with the College Fund since 1995, contributing over $1.3 million in scholarship support for American Indian and Alaska Native students attending TCUs.
Each year, the College Fund provides millions of dollars to thousands of TCU students.
The blanket design contest adds to this support while promoting Native art, culture, and stories.
Submission guidelines and applications are available on the College Fund’s website, and no formal artistic study or textile design experience is required for participation.
Each year, contest winners are selected by a committee composed of Native American artists alongside staff from the College Fund and Pendleton.
For over 20 years, the American Indian College Fund and Pendleton Woolen Mills have collaborated to create blankets aimed at raising funds and promoting the importance of higher education within American Indian communities.
There is still time to enter the Tribal College Blanket Design Contest for a chance to win scholarship dollars, cash prizes, and Pendleton blankets.
No textile design experience is required to participate. Student prizes include a $2,000 cash prize, a $5,000 scholarship, six blankets, a $500 cash prize, a $2,500 scholarship, and a $250 cash prize, as well as a $1,500 scholarship.
