During the Fall 2024 Commencement, the campus community celebrated the achievements of students, awarding more than 1,700 degrees and certificates.
The graduate ceremony for master’s and doctoral candidates took place on December 12, followed by the undergraduate celebration on December 13.
In addition to the main ceremonies, various schools and colleges hosted their own convocations, showcasing the talent of 1,717 graduates across all campuses.
UNM welcomed Lillian Montoya, the president and CEO of Christus St. Vincent Health System, as the keynote speaker for the graduate ceremony.
As a proud UNM alumna with both a bachelor’s degree and an MBA, she inspired graduates with her journey and dedication.
For the undergraduates, they had the pleasure of hearing from tech entrepreneur Doug Campbell, a double alumnus from the engineering program and the visionary founder of Solid Power, a company leading the charge in developing cutting-edge batteries for electric vehicles.
In the days leading up to the ceremonies, the Communication and Marketing team proudly spotlighted students who have shown extraordinary leadership, resilience, and courage.
Among them were a graduate who bravely served as a Captain with Albuquerque Fire Rescue and another who, despite facing heartbreaking challenges, stepped up to care for a sibling with special needs.
Their stories remind us of the strength of the human spirit and the impact we can have on our communities.
