The preferences of new graduates are quite similar to those of earlier classes, study finds

The National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE) has found that, similar to previous years, the 2024 Student Survey showed strong support for the value of a college education, with nearly 90% of students stating that their institution prepared them for the workforce after graduation.

The survey also revealed that over two-thirds of graduating college seniors from the Class of 2024 participated in at least one internship, and 80% of those students were satisfied with their experience.

Another NACE study revealed that the Class of 2024 college graduates are seeking jobs that offer economic security, much like their counterparts from 2014.

It seems that the preferences of new graduates are quite similar to those of earlier classes.

The NACE study, which was sponsored by Indeed, surveyed thousands of bachelor’s degree level graduates, with 20,482 college students taking part, including 2,281 graduating seniors earning bachelor’s degrees.

According to the responses of the graduating seniors, economic security is at the top of the wish list for new college graduates when looking for a job and an employer.

NACE defined economic security as job stability, annual salary increases, and a good benefits package, including a company-matched 401k and employer-paid health insurance.

The preferences of the Class of 2024 graduates show a difference from those who entered the workforce a decade earlier.

Slightly more than half (51%) prefer to work exclusively in-person, while 43% favor a hybrid work environment, splitting their work time between the employer’s formal setting and a virtual environment.

According to the NACE 2024 Recruiting Compensation Report, employers extended offers to more than 50% of their Class of 2023 candidates, 75% of which were accepted.

NACE is the only professional association in the United States that connects college career services professionals, early career talent acquisition professionals, and business solution providers.
