The Center for Information Technology Research in the Interest of Society and the Banatao Institute (CITRIS) at the University of California, Berkeley, has launched the CITRIS Climate Innovation Fellowship program.

The program is designed to support nine student entrepreneurs from UC Berkeley who are working to create a more sustainable world.

Each fellow, including five undergraduates, three graduate students, and one postdoctoral researcher, will receive $10,000 to advance projects addressing urgent environmental challenges such as carbon emissions tracking and reduction, water scarcity, and wildfire mitigation and management.

The program will provide participants with co-working space, weekly workshops, guidance from advisors, and connections with investors.

By the end of 2024, the fellows will have prepared comprehensive plans and pitch decks to move their ideas closer to becoming tangible products and services that promote climate resilience.

The program, which was launched in January 2024 with a one-time award from the state of California, invited applications from UC Berkeley undergraduates, graduate students, and postdoctoral researchers who are interested in developing innovative climate-related technology solutions.

The focus of the program is to cultivate ideas, enhance business skills, provide mentorship, and create networking opportunities to support student innovation and engage UC Berkeley students and postdocs in ventures aligned with the CITRIS Climate initiative.

The stipends will help the participants focus on building startups that will accelerate deep tech and interdisciplinary approaches to solve significant climate challenges.
